![]() In 1913, Park Jae-hyuk founded a salvation group (Gusedan) with Kim Byung-tae, Park Heung-kyu, Wang Chi-duk, Jo Young-sang, Oh Taek and centering on Choi Cheon-tak, to save the country defeating Japanese imperialism. He was persecuted for his acts with the salvation group, and killed the chief officer of Busan in 1920 with a bomb. He was sentenced to death after surviving injury caused by the bomb attack and severe torture, and died in prison in Daegu, due to fasting at the age of 25. Monuments to Park Jae-hyuk at Busanjin Elementary School, his alma mater, Beomeosa Temple in Chungryong dong, and Children’s Grand Park in Choeup were built to commemorate the spirit of the young man who fought for his country. In 1962, the Korean government honored him with the Order of Independence. |
