![]() Shin Duk-gyun set up Taepyeong Rice Mill in the back alley of Choryang. Taepyeong rice mill became the foundation of the Korean economy. He also supported patriots of the Gyungnam area and supplied war funds for the independence army, getting himself taken to the Japanese police a total of 35 times. After the independence, the business became bigger. Taepyeong Rice Mill had 4 mills in the Busan area and 3 in the Honam area even before the independence. In 1946, he founded Busan Jungmi Incorporated at the Nulwon Building, Beomil dong, Dong-gu, Busan. He also founded the Nulwon Cultural Foundation in 1959 focusing on promoting culture. It is surprising that he founded the cultural foundation, trying to develop the national culture. The cultural awards, scholarship and research aid were all part of his plan for the next generation to become a first-class nation and awaken them spiritually. |
