Detailed Description
Bogwangsa Wooden Seated Amitabha Buddha Triad is characterized by a short waist, wide upper body, long and slender eyes and a distinctive nose, and a wide, lotus leaf-shaped hem on the left leg. These factors are characteristic of the Buddha statues of Saeknan or Saeknan sculptors who were active in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, and it is estimated that the time of creation of the Samjon statue would also fall within this period.
The Seated Amitabha Nyorai Samjon statue at Bogwangsa Temple is a Buddhist statue created by a Buddhist monk Saennan or Saeknangye, and it is the first confirmed case in Busan.
Saeknan was active mainly in Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do, and his disciples also have works centered in Gyeongsang-do.
Therefore, it is a work of high value for understanding the genealogy of Buddhist monks, active areas of the school, and stylistic characteristics, which are important research topics in the study of Buddha statues in the late Joseon Dynasty.
