Detailed Description
Yeonggadae used be located on the western Gyeongbline at todays Seongnam elementary school in Beomildong, Donggu.
This is a place deeply related with Tongsinsaheng that was dispatched to Japan, In1614(6th year of Kwanghaegun Dynast), the Gyeongsando patrolman Kwon, Ban made anew dock for the seashore near Busanjinsung was shallow and narrow and from the soils that was dug from the sea has formed a small hill and there he planted a tree and built a pavilion.
Ever since the nation’s diplomacy messenger Oh, Yoon Guem left to Japan from Yeonggadae in1617, Tongsinsa continued to carry out offerings before going to Korea.
In 1624(2nd year of King Injo) Lee, Min-Gu as a host to foreign visitors was sent to Busan to host Japanese ambassadors and saw this tree and thought of Kwon, Ban’s hometown AnDong and named it after its former name Yeongga and called it ‘Yeonggadae.
Tongsinsaheng was a representative ambassador of Korea for the smooth relationship between Korea and Japan in the late Joseon Dynasty. Dispatched to Japan under the name Tongsinsa were total of 9 from 1636 to 1811 and was once dispatched to Edo(Present Tokyo) where Makbu was upon Japanese request.
It was a very difficult schedule for Tongsinsaheng to cross the Korean Straits with a long journey of 8 months. Tongsinsaheng would give offerings at the Yeonggadae to the sea before their departure to wish safe voyage and return.
The scenery of the Yeonggadae was so beautiful that Poet Mukgaek as well as the Tongsinsaheng crew who stayed here wrote many poems praising its beauty.
Yeonggadae was divided with the opening of Gyeongbu Line in 1905 and then moved to Neungpungjang that was a vocational home of Japanese merchant Oikawa during the Japanese colonial period and then disappeared with the rise of urbanization. According to the plan to set up the historical landmark of Busan Metropolitan City in 2000. The”Busanpowagwan Yonggadaetuh” stone posts were set up in the road park near Donggu Jwacheondong subway station and near to Jasungdae in 2003, Yeonggada e pavilion was restored and is being used as history education tour resource.
