Park, Ki-Jong was born in November 1839 (the 5th year of Hwangjong Dynasty), the current Jwacheongdong Donggu and founded the very first Busan’s new style school, Gaesung School in May 1895.
Gaesung School has become a place of groundwork of independent civilization, enlightenment and colonial education that was quite a different dream for both Korea and Japan.
Gaesung School is now called Gaesung High School.
After that, he established a steamer company in 1890 with a purchase of a steamer from Japan and built a railway company in 1898. It is generally regarded as Korea’s first private railway company.
He wrote two books ‘Sankyungilgi’, and ‘Dochong.’
These two books are important documents for the study of the late Korean empire government period as he recorded the important events of foreign relationships in a diary right before he was appointed to
Waebuchamnsuhkwan (government officer). His term of office was served while residing in Seoul.
